Adam Brody shadowed ‘Gossip Girl’ reboot
“You have to have a real political and social record, and is that what people want to see with this show?”
Adam Brody, who played Seth Cohen in CO (among many other pivotal roles of the 2000s), had a miniCO reunion this week!
Guest on former co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke’s podcast,Welcome to the CO, Bitches!, Adam asked whether or not a CO restart would work today.
“I don’t think it can be done because I feel like, socially, I think we’re in a different place. And I think we’re in a more conscious place,” Adam began.
Adam also (politely) shaded the Gossip Girl restart, arguing that it doesn’t work for the same reason as a CO restarting would not work.
“I feel like CO, while he claims to be in the same sense of Gossip Girl, while that sort of sounds like a review [of affluence], it’s not. It is a celebration. It’s a celebration of wealth, in my opinion, “he said.
“But I guess my point is like, for me in a post-Donald Trump America, to go, ‘Let’s go to Orange County,’ I feel like you have to have a real political account and socially, “he continued. “And is that what people want to see with this show? I don’t know. And is there a way to do both? I mean, there is I guess, but in my eyes, I’d probably like to blaze it more than, like, the fans would like. So I don’t know who would be happy. “
Adam, who is married (!) To the original Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, has also had great things to say about parenting.
“We have multiplied here.… I am counting my blessings every day,” he said. “Not to say that, you know, life is all good, I guess, but I’m so lucky and I don’t know it.”
Adam and Rachel, who dated for three years IRL, also had the nicest things possible to say to each other.
“Watching the show and, for example, looking back on that time and everything in between, you really – I don’t even know how to say that – you taught me how to play well,” Rachel said. “You did it, like, so comfortable to go there and not be scared, and everything you did and work with you really gave me the confidence to do what I wanted and go for it. I just want to say thank you because that brings it all up. And I was like, ‘Man, I’ve never been as good as when I was playing with you.’ “
