Artiste Manager Bullgod claimed that if the Ghanaian presidential elections had taken place on Saturday, the incumbent, Nana Akufo-Addo, would have lost.

According to Bullgod, who was a guest on Accra-based Hitz FM on Monday, September 26, 2022, the boos the Ghanaian President received sometime during his speech at the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday night was enough of an indicator.

“Look, what happened that day, if we went to the polls that day, he would lose. Trust,” he said.

Earlier, he felt that the Ghanaian leader was in the wrong place when he came to address the audience and was booed as a result.

“This environment is not for him,” shared before giving the impression that Mr. Akufo-Addo let down his people and showed no empathy for their difficulties.

“If you lead a people, you have to listen to them. You have to feel what they feel. You have to improve their life. This is why we elect leaders,” he said.

“So if you’re in the leadership and your supporters aren’t in the right space, the right mindset, the conditions are tough, hot, what do you expect from them? It’s the only way [they could register their displeasure]“, he underlined.

Bullgod, an entertainment expert, also estimated that around 90% of the crowd at the event booed Akufo-Addo.

The Daybreak Hitz team led by Andy Dosty called out to him about it but he maintained his position and added “It’s the youth and not even a political mob. So if these young people see this, or if they do, you should know where the country is going.

In its tenth year, the Global Citizen Festival held a concurrent event in Central Park, New York, New York, USA and Black Star Square, Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

At 36, Rollie Pemberton already has a full story to tell – certainly enough to write a memoir, which he has.

Memoir to this heavyweight, says the Edmonton-born author of Bedroom Rapper. “But you know, I personally feel like I’ve lived several different lives already. And I feel like there’s a story worth telling now.

In effect. Consider, for starters, that at age 15 he was already a guest on Edmonton radio station CJSR with his well-like DJ father Teddy Pemberton, widely known for playing the capital’s first on-air hip hop. A few years later, Pemberton (also the grandson of local CFL football hero Rollie Miles) released his scene-melting film, clearly Breaking Kayfabe album ahead of its time under the now familiar name Cadence Weapon.

Soon Pemberton was writing album reviews for Pitchfork, and his first of several Polaris Prize nominations came in 2006 – the only black electro rapper among white indie rock bands – beginning one of the main arcs of the story of the book: the persistent misfit. He signed a distribution deal with Epitaph Records’ label ANTI the following year and, not for the first time, connoisseurs of Alberta’s music ecosystem caused a stir.

Pemberton will be in town to talk about his book and other literary topics as part of Wordfest’s 2022 Imaginary, which begins September 29.

With his heavy, slightly nerdy electro vibe, the restless rapper didn’t always feel embraced by the hip-hop scene, which was stingy, but not entirely comfortable in the world of white indie rock. But one of the key ideas in his groundbreaking book – which also explores the history of hip-hip and British grime – is how he intentionally studied and researched, learned the rules so he could break them.

This was exemplified to a new high in 2009, when Pemberton became Edmonton’s poet laureate (not everyone over 70 was happy), just in time to enter the legendary DIY loft scene. of Montreal, doing art and DJing shoulder to shoulder with the rising star. friends Mac De-Marco and Claire Boucher (aka Grimes) – no big deal.

Meanwhile, around the world, Cadence Weapon has collected a mad roster of opening spots, including Public Enemy, Rihanna and De La Soul, while back in Edmonton – which he never lets go through 300 pages – his poetry lined the art of the Avenue banner. Jasper and a monolithic sculpture on the grounds of the Northeast Legislature for years.

Growing up I always wished there were things like this to watch,” he says. “My whole life has been like this. The music that I made, I always wished it existed. And so I did.

Never stopping, Pemberton found himself in Toronto in 2015, where he still lives and makes music. This Ontario production of course understands its policy confident fifth studio album, Parallel World, which won the Polaris Prize last year.

And yet, if Bedroom Rapper was just a linear, bottom-up story of goals and equal work Hit it wouldn’t be a third as interesting. For example, when Pemberton started the book at the start of the pandemic, things were shaky enough that he didn’t know when — or even if — he would make another album.

But it’s the exact same feeling of frenetic courage and occasional dread on his first hit Oliver Square – plus repeatedly seeing the bottom fall on his hopes and dreams – that makes his story of endurance so compelling. We know how the story ends; we just didn’t know how many times it basically ended along the way.

Pemberton took body shots that could have stopped him dead: racist daggers thrown on the schoolyard; his father’s artistic discouragement; his imploding relationship with Pitchfork; a catastrophic opening spot for Rihanna; and being downright extorted is the story of a young musician as old as this lip licking devil At the crossroads.

Even the title of the book is an ironic nod to an early national misunderstanding.

I did this interview with Maclean’s and in the article it’s like, ‘He makes music in his room,’ laughed Pemberton. “I actually went to (Edmonton polymath) Nik Kozub’s legitimate studio. It felt like it was almost a slight. But now I’ve reversed the phrase, and it sounds more like a rallying cry.

Pemberton states at the beginning of the book that he considers being fired as an Edmonton rapper a badge of honor now, to the last line of the book, in fact, and wants to pass that strength on.

I want everyone to get something out of this book,” he says. “I wanted to create something useful. Especially for people who are like me or people who are different, who will follow me. When I was growing up, there would never have been a book written by someone with my past. And I know I won’t be the last.

Pemberton notes throughout how his trials constantly forced him to put his “ideologically stubborn but stylistically flexible” work ethic to the test, and that he feels more comfortable on stage now than talking to people in casual conversation.

The stage is my domain in a way it wasn’t before, when it was a source of anxiety,” he says. “When I’m on stage, I feel like the most complete representation of myself.

As the book ends – unbeknownst to him when he started writing – with the Polaris to win, what has changed for him since then? “A lot, man. People look at me differently, I feel like an old statesman, especially when it comes to people who want to rap differently.

I feel more respected.

The world, finally, is ready for Rollie Pemberton.

Bedroom Rapper is available in bookstores now, and Pemberton will be at two Wordfest events, the Sept. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again Oct. 1 from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., both at DJD Dance Center, 111 12th Ave. SE Tickets available at wordfest.com

Nigerian music star Patoranking cited Blakk Rasta and his Taxi Driver radio show as one of the inspirations behind his choice to make reggae/dancehall music.

The other is on Ghana’s vibrant reggae/dancehall scene.

The serial hitmaker was a guest on Accra-based Hitz FM on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, when he said this.

He started by telling Andy Dosty from Hitz FM about his humble beginnings and how he decided to make music.

It all started in the streets of Osu which became his home when he “was 17, 18”.

“From Container to Papaya to Towers, those were my zones. Maybe if I want to go further, we’ll go to Blue Gate in the evening,” Patoranking said.

Despite the difficult circumstances he was living in in Ghana, he explained that he was depressed “because I saw people going through the same thing, you know”.

“I was on the streets homeless for a very long time, but to continue doing what I knew would really change my life,” the Nigerian said, adding that he was “trying to make music as well.”

“And you know, the reggae/dancehall culture in Ghana is huge, it’s a part I chose,” with his hands he demonstrated his effort to master the musical style and revealed an inspiration: “Thanks to Blakk Rasta [and his show] Taxi driver. I was glued to it [radio] program.”

Blakk Rasta is a renowned reggae/dancehall artist and radio personality who currently hosts his show Taxi Driver on Class Media Group’s Class 91.3 FM.

“Thank you to PY, Bless the Mic, for the countless opportunities,” he also added.

“It was like the times I listened to music [and] make music too,” the multi-award-winning singer noted.

The ‘No Kissing Baby’ hitmaker revealed earlier that he originally came to Ghana to pursue higher education at the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast.

However, due to insufficient funds from his supplier and father, he had to resign himself to street life in Ghana’s capital, Accra, including “the one thing I know how to do that can actually change the face of my family, the music.”

Patoranking is currently touring Ghana promoting his new single titled “Kolo Kolo” which features Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz.

Love is real, y’all. country superstar Carrie Underwood continues to show appreciation for I Prevail, this time chiming in on a Twitter thread about the streaming prowess of the band’s latest offering, true power.

The band’s third studio album was released in August, and to mark the first month of its release, the band tweeted, “A month of ‘true power.’ 56 million streams. All thanks to you.”

Underwood then commented on the thread, adding, “I think I was a lot of them!” It earned him two prayer emojis and a smiling Brian Burkheiser emoji from I Prevail.

As you’d expect, this little exchange on Twitter sparked some of the I Prevail fan base, with one person remarking, “We’re going to need some collaboration.” Another added: “Of course I didn’t have ‘Carrie Underwood listening to I Prevail’ on my 2022 bingo card but I love it!” and yet another commented, “Biggest plot twist of 2022.”

This isn’t the first time Underwood has publicly sung the band’s praises, however. In April, she appeared on CBS This Morning, telling the interviewer, “[While] I honestly listen to music like metal or super hard rock. I like the band I Prevail and their Trauma the album is the one I have on loop when I practice.”

She added, “There are a lot of words that aren’t kid-friendly. That’s important to note. But I’m like, ‘Don’t buy, you know, [my Christian record] My Savior and then go buy Trauma and be like, ‘Carrie Underwood told me.'”

She has also shown off her hard rock fandom frequently over the past year. In the spring, she invited Axl Rose on stage to sing with her at the Stagecoach Festival, then returned the favor by joining him on stage at a Guns N’ Roses show. And more recently, she covered Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mama I’m Coming Home” for Apple Music. Underwood recently shared on social media that his morning run was recorded by the band Nothing More.

Henry Silva, who starred in johnny cool, fought Frank Sinatra in The Manchu Candidate and was one of Sinatra’s flying companions in Ocean 11, among dozens of on-screen roles spanning half a century, he died Wednesday of natural causes at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 95 years old.

An actor whose distinctive face has often led to being typecast as a heavyweight, his more than 130 film and TV credits also include The Bravados, with Gregory Peck (1958); Cinderella, with Jerry Lewis (1960); the Western led by the Rat Pack Sergeants 3 (1962); Buck Rogers in the 25th century (1979); love and bullets with Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland and Rod Steiger (1979); photos of Burt Reynolds Sharky’s Machine (1981) and Cannonball Run II (1982); At Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy (1990); Steven Seagal’s first movie Above the law (1988); and that of Jim Jarmusch Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai with Forest Whitaker (1999).

In addition to the title role opposite Elizabeth Montgomery in johnny cool (1963), Silva – who was fluent in Spanish and Italian – also starred in several European pictures, including The Return of Mr. Moto (1965), Spaghetti Western Blood on the mountain (1966), frame up (1968) and the World War II thriller Zero probability (1969), The Italian connection (1972), The boss (1973), To remove (1974) and weapons of death (1977).

He was also a familiar presence on TV, guesting on classic series such as Hawaii Five-O, Mission: Impossible, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Outer Limits, Night Gallery, The FBI, Dr. Kildare, Wagon Train, The High Chaparral, It Takes a Thief and The streets of San Francisco.

Among Silva’s biggest roles was as Johnny Cool, a Sicilian outlaw turned assassin who is sent on a revenge mission to America to eliminate his mentor’s enemies. As the death toll mounts, he joins forces with a wealthy divorcee (Montgomery) who ends up betraying him. The film’s marquee ensemble also included Rat Packers Sammy Davis Jr. and Peter Lawford, as well as Telly Savalas, Jim Backus and Mort Sahl.

The teaser trailer for the pic featured Davis’ character at a craps table talking to the camera, “Wanna know more about Johnny Cool?” he asks. “Well, I usually judge a guy by the way he plays. What I can say is that this cat plays really cool and only plays for the highest stakes – like your life. Anyone who meets Cool must be elusive It’s a killing machine. No matter how many you owe, it’s killing.

But Silva is perhaps best known for his key role in John Frankenheimer’s classic political thriller The Manchu Candidate. He played a house boy who doubled as a communist spy. His character, Chunjin, was attacked by Marco de Sinatra in a brutal and intense 90-second fight scene.

Silva appeared opposite Sinatra again in the 1977 TV movie Contract on Cherry Street, and his final credit was a small role in the star-filled 2001 remake of Ocean’s Eleven.

In the 1990s, Silva voiced Bane in episodes of Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series and The New Adventures of Batman.

Radiant Pink has its own mini-series! The miniseries in 5 issues, Bright pinkcomes from the streamer Meghan Camarena (Brilliant black), writer Melissa Flores (The lucky dead), and artist Emma Kubert (Ink stain) and follows Eva, the teleporting Radiant Pink, on a new single-player adventure. This Massive-Verse expansion will be available from Image Comics in December and I’m thrilled!

In Radiant Pink, life is good for Eva. Ever since teleportation superhero Radiant Pink (her secret alter ego) started guesting on her streams, her view counts have skyrocketed, and fame and fortune are surely close behind. But when a charity apparition is interrupted by a squad of mercenaries searching for the Radiant that powers her, Eva will find herself far out of her comfort zone.

Speaking about writing the miniseries, Flores said Popverse:

I’m having an unforgettable time co-writing Radiant Pink with Meghan. I can’t wait for readers to immerse themselves in this incredibly fun story that stays true to the spirit of Radiant Black, while providing plenty of heart and a deeper look at complex issues. Paired with the gorgeous art of Emma Kubert, it will be an amazing new adventure!

Kubert added:

With the action-packed story and wonderful direction from Meghan and Melissa, I have fun creating the exciting visuals for Radiant Pink. It’s an absolute delight to follow Eva on this emotional roller coaster and really see all the different sides of this awesome and fun character.

Expressing her excitement for the project, Camarena shared:

WHO ALLOWED ME TO DO THIS? Oh yeah thanks Kyle! Radiant Pink is a story of self-love, growth, and a bit more chaos. I share with you a chapter from a very vulnerable part of my life, told by Eva. Melissa Flores brings the angst and Emma Kubert brings the sparkle!

Kyle Higginthe creator of Brilliant black who launched the Massive-Verse said:

It’s been so much fun building the Radiant Black side of the Massive-Verse and part of that includes being able to bring in Meghan, Melissa, Emma, Rebecca and Becca to help us explore a very different side of the ‘super- hero”. Similar to what Cherish, David and Miquel did with Satomi’s story in Radiant Red, Meghan and Melissa send Eva to some pretty unexpected places. I can’t wait for people to know her better.

I can’t wait to read this series. The Massive-Verse is so fun and amazing. If you haven’t read it, I heartily recommend it. You can enter Bright pink #1 on December 7 at your local comic book store or various digital platforms. Main cover is by Kubert with variants available from Tom Whalen and Kelly McMahon.

Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa’s hit Radiant Black took superhero storytelling to new heights when it launched in 2021, but Radiant Black isn’t the only character inhabiting the growing Massive-Verse. . Each character has a different story to tell, different adversaries to face…and they each occupy a very different corner of this shared superhero universe. Lil Wayne is a big fan of LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. There’s simply no denying that, especially after the rap icon made a rather ambitious statement about LA’s title hopefuls this season.

As far as Lil Wayne goes, the Lakers can win it all this year. He made his belief clear during a recent guest on Fox Sports 1 Undisputed with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe (h/t Clutch points on Twitter):

“Beyond being a fan, I believe we can go all the way,” he said. “I believe the Lakers can go as far as ‘Bron takes them’. And as far as AD is healthy.

Skip could hardly believe Lil Wayne’s statement here and the famous broadcaster had to do a double take. Unfazed, the 39-year-old rapper doubled down on his request while pointing out a major caveat – that LeBron and Anthony Davis stay healthy throughout the season.

Lil Wayne, however, also admitted that he had some hesitations about AD:

“I trust ‘Bron, I’m not sure about Alzheimer’s and his health,” he said. “I trust ‘Bron.”

When asked if he trusted Davis’ drive and desire to play, Lil Wayne backed off a bit and said yes.

Let’s not forget that the last time LeBron James and Anthony Davis were both healthy for most of the season, the Lakers gained a chip. That’s exactly what Lil Wayne is betting on.

The trio also discussed the Russell Westbrook factor. Shannon Sharpe animatedly argued that he thought Russ could be a major impediment to the Lakers’ success this year. Sharpe thinks even a healthy LeBron and AD wouldn’t be enough to offset this major problem.
